BLET members: Important notice regarding Health and Welfare rates

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, June 8 — All active BLET members are advised that effective July 1, 2016, the monthly employee cost-sharing contributions under the Railroad Employees National Health and Welfare Plan will increase to $228.89. As of July 1, 2012, the employee contribution to Railroad Employees National Health and Welfare Plan was frozen at $198.00 per month and that freeze continues through June 30, 2016. In accordance with the provisions of the 2012 National Agreement covering freight railroads, the amount of employee cost-sharing is determined in one of two ways: It is either capped at $230 per month; or it is equal to 15% of the Carriers’ monthly payment rate for 2016. By agreement, the lesser amount is used. The $228.89 rate will remain in effect unless altered by the next National Agreement.
