Michael Kelliher selected as NMB’s Acting Chief of Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Mediation Board (NMB) is pleased to announce that Michael Kelliher has been selected as the Acting Chief of Staff, temporarily replacing Mr. Daniel Rainey who left the Board on September 30, 2017. Mr. Kelliher will continue in that role until a new Chief of Staff is selected. In this capacity, Mr. Kelliher will work across all of the offices at the Board. On June 23, 2014, Mr. Kelliher was selected as the Board’s Deputy Chief of Staff, responsible for the Mediation program at the Board.
Mr. Kelliher joined the NMB on August 2, 2010 bringing to the Mediation corps 30 years of labor relations experience in the airline industry as a labor advocate. His labor relations experience includes work in a variety of capacities including a term as President of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants at American Airlines.
Prior to joining the NMB, he served as an adjunct professor of management in the Brennan School of Business at Dominican University. From 2012 to June 2017, Mr. Kelliher managed the NMB’s partnership with Dominican University, focusing on issues related to Conflict Resolution and Negotiations.
Mr. Kelliher earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. He holds a certificate in mediation from Northwestern University’s School of Continuing Studies and earned an ombudsman certificate from the United States Department of Defense.
The National Mediation Board is an independent Federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, which governs labor-management relations of nearly 500 railroads and 100 airlines in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and the US territories.
