UP slates $59 million for Utah track, bridge projects

In the latest of its state-by-state capital expenditure announcements, Union Pacific Railroad officials said this week the Class I will spend $59.3 million on track and bridge projects this year in Utah.
UP’s investments will include $54.1 million to maintain track and $123,000 to maintain bridges in the state, according to a UP press release.
Key projects this year will include $13 million to replace 28 miles of rail along the Lakeside subdivision west of the Great Salt Lake; $11 million to replace more than 100,500 ties between Delta and Milford; and $10 million to replace 22 miles of rail along the Shaftner subdivision east of Wendover.
Over the past five years, UP has spent more than $244.7 million to strengthen its infrastructure in Utah.
