The Surface Transportation Board (STB) has accepted for consideration the application filed Oct. 29 for the proposed merger of Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern Railway, the board announced yesterday.
The STB determined the application is complete as it contains all information required by the board’s regulations, according to an STB press release.
In its decision, following public comment, the STB has adopted a procedural schedule that sets deadlines for comments, responsive applications, final briefs and other filings, the release stated.
Notices of intent to participate are due Dec. 13. Subsequent deadlines are contained in the decision. The procedural schedule provides that any necessary public hearing will be take place after the filing of final briefs, which are due on July 1, 2022.
“We look forward to moving forward with a robust regulatory review of this historic combination that will add capacity to the U.S. rail network, create new competitive transportation options, support North American economic growth, and deliver other important benefits to customers, employees, and the environment,” said CP President and CEO Keith Creel in a press release.
