The Port of Vancouver USA won a 2019 Engineering Excellence Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Oregon for a rail expansion project.

The West Vancouver Freight Access project (WVFA) was an effort to invest $251 million into freight-rail infrastructure and increase rail traffic by 40 percent through the port and along the BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad mainlines that connect the Pacific Northwest to rail hubs in Chicago and Houston, as well as from Canada to Mexico, according to the port’s website.

Port Director of Engineering and Project Delivery Monty Edberg, who led a team of staff and consultants for more than 10 years to see WVFA to completion, presented the award to the port’s board last month.

HDR was the port’s prime consultant on WVFA project.
